HERstory in the Making

Detroit is home to the greatest hustlers, movers, shakers and go-getters. Known for their grit and mentality to get the job done, Detroiters are long overdue for their roses. While 2020 has been an unforgettable journey for most, the rise of small businesses during this pandemic has surged exponentially. Among the new business owners entering the market, Black women have dominated sectors of technology, fitness, health, beauty, etc. Detroit Renaissance High School graduate and basketball superstar, Siyeh Frazier, has defeated the odds and tackled the task of entrepreneurship.

Siyeh made a name for herself with her athletic career by being one of the most dominate players to take-over the Detroit Public School League (PSL) at Renaissance. Leading her teams to numerous playoff appearances and making Renaissance championship contenders. After graduating, she took her talents to Penn State University where she elevated her game on and off the court to become a household name for the powerhouse program.

While many may recognize her for her athletic achievements, Siyeh has upped the bar for herself by establishing her own company, Legends’ Marketplace, LLC.

“With more courage than experience I began working on my company, Legends’ Marketplace, LLC May of 2020. I knew this business was for me when I began to acknowledge my passion for my community and nepotism. I wanted to create a way for my brand to have a direct impact in my community while simultaneously building a network of successful Black professionals”. – Siyeh

Siyeh takes pride in being a resource to her community and those following in her footsteps. She actively works with the youth through Curtis Blackwell’s Sound Mind Sound Body program, which assists high school student-athletes in their transition from high school to college. While pursuing her degree in sociology, she plans to re-brand herself as a versatile business professional. When asked what prompted her interest in business, she stated,

“The e-commerce market has projected gradual growth over the next decade and I am establishing a platform where Black businesses can be represented and advertised in a shared space. Legends’ Marketplace is being branded to support small businesses and develop a community through e-commerce and brand exposure”.

Being a Detroit native comes with an awful lot of pride. Whether you hail from the East or the West, the love the city receives is unmatched, especially when you have spent your life calling this place home. Siyeh plans to use her experiences to aide in the redevelopment and growth of Detroit.

“One thing that everyone should know about me is that I love my community and believe so much in my people that we can develop our own representation of our truth. I pride myself on being a face of genuine love for my community and culture. I know what it is like to perform at a high level to believe in myself and accomplish my own dream. I am transferring this energy and work ethic into support and development of my community’s accomplishments”.
